Tight Matters

Rodarte S/S 09. The cutouts pretty much take away any practicality but ahh whatever I'm totally melting. One in every color? Yes, please.

Maryna taking adorability to whole new levels...

Maryna + Sofia = one insanely cute perfume commercial.

Printed Wonders.

THAKOON FOR TARGET. Seventeen days, is it? This is going to be epic. His designs never disappoint, and since his legendary pixie-floral collection last spring, he's been on the up and up with an apparently unstoppable impetus. Enamoured with: the floral print shorts, camo tee, and jacket on the bottom. I want to go out and buy some wayfarers like now. Check out the selection at FredFlare, pretty impressive. I'm thinking about the light blue or gold.

Notez: It's back to the good ole USofA on Saturday! I'm most excited, mainly to have a functioning camera and to run into my closet and throw on the bajillion different clothing articles that I have been away from for three months. It will be like a having a whole new wardrobe! Christmas is coming early.

Don't panic, it's organic.

Blend Apparel, my latest obsession. An environmentally-conscious company with a "carpe diem" attitude. They produce organic cotton & bamboo t-shirts, brilliantly designed in a philosophical way. The quirky messages on the shirts are an inspiring new form of communication. The company's mission reads, "Our shirts encourage people to smile wider, look closer, and think broader." The iconography is thought-provoking and eye-catching. Now that's intelligent style.

Spread the love,
Maddy

The Details in the Fabric

Alber Elbaz is on top of his game. Not surprising, but his S/S 2009 collection was something out of this world. The immaculate attention to detail put into each article of clothing, each shoe, each handbag, was nothing short of inspirational. Enough to make a girl go gaga. Someday, someday, I'll be living the Lanvinian Dream. Just not today, tomorrow, or come spring when I return to American with zilch in the bank account. Shucks. But until then, a girl can drool, I mean dream, can she not? The adorably bejeweled sunglasses were my favorite accessory. I can't wait to buy some cheap frames and jazz them up with a little Elbaz-inspired DIY action!

Footwear Fantasy

I'm totally thinking about buying some Docs. The aforementioned "nonexistent" florals have been found...at the DR. MARTENS WEBSITE (brain lapse, much?) I was so thrilled to stumble upon these lovelies...now just to find them! Hopefully when I go to Paris next week. I'm for sure taking a day to ditch my group and happily peruse the thrift stores by my lonesome. I'm also meeting up with a friend from high school, so I cannot wait! I'm so torn between these, those I think I prefer the black ones.

New Crush (sorry, Mraz!)

I'm temporarily breaking up with Jason because a man by the name of John Paul Gaultier stole my heart!

Denim Delight

I'm not really a "jean" person, as in I own one pair, as in I'm constantly wearing dresses and skirts. When it comes time for winter, I simply add tights and call it a day. But I will say I love the looks of these new black slim jimmies from AE:

Aren't these little limb-huggers irresistible? Unfortunately my current geographic location does not bode well for such a purchase, sigh.

an ode to H-Ween

Dear Americans (and Halloween-celebrating foreigners!),
Tell me your costume so I can live vicariously through you! Halloween has grown in popularity here in Sevilla due to increasing numbers of American students. There is even a costume store on the corner of my apartment building, and my cafe (meaning I spend too many hours a day there) has a sign outside saying "si llevas un disfraz en halloween, recibiras un regalo." Translation: If you wear a costume on Halloween, you will receive a gift. I am still wondering how similar the tradition is to actual American Halloween, since we have seen such a shift from typical scary costumes (witches, ghouls), to politicians and pop culture figures. Anywho, I'm looking forward to taking note!

Now, if I were dressing up...

Q: What do you call someone who put's poison in a person's corn flakes?
A: A cereal Killer.

a petite obsession of mine

I love everything about Alice in Wonderland. The Disney adaptation (obvs), the original book by Lewis Carroll (adorably quirky with awe-inspiring creativity). And now to add to the list (drumroll please)....TIM BURTON'S!

Alice: But I don't want to go among mad people.
Cat: Oh, you can't help that. We're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad.
Alice: How do you know I'm mad?
Cat: You must be, or you wouldn't have come here.
Alice: And how do you know that you're mad?
Cat: To begin with, a dog's not mad. You grant that?
Alice: I suppose so.
Cat: Well, then, you see, a dog growls when it's angry and wags its tail when it's pleased. Now I growl when I'm pleased, and wag my tail when I'm angry. Therefore, I'm mad.

If I may be a braggart...

I would just like everyone to know that on my program's recent excursion to Granada and Malaga, we hiked among these rocks. I was wearing ballet flats. That is all.

My feetsies are yearning for:

These oh so lovely riding boots can be found at Urban. I miss Urban, and my riding boots. So someone purchase these and wear them with love for me.

I've got a crush on you, I hope you feel the way that I do.

The "you" is Jason Mraz. I love. And dear Jason, if you ever read this, which there is a 99.9% chance you won't, I apologize for expressing my feelings through tweenage Mandy Moore lyrics. It's just that "Live High" has been on repeat for the past hour, and I will never tire of it.

Favorite Songs:
1. Live High
2. Beautiful Mess
3. I'm Yours

I just spent the evening watching Sleeping Beauty with friends on the steps behind my apartment, does it get any better?

Paris, Je T'aime.

Chanel. Is it socially acceptable to be in love with a pair of shoes? Karl sure does know the way to my heart:

Side note: I'm going to Paris Nov. 13-16 so I'd thoroughly appreciate thrift store recommendations! -maddy

Da Best of Das Boot.

Dolce & Gabbana deserve an A+ in accelerated geometry.

Dear D&G, I see you have chosen to use my ears as inspiration for your spring collection. How sweet!
Love, Minnie

Style.com rated Balenciaga the #2 show of the season, and it was well-deserved. Holy cow. Check it out if you haven't. And if you aren't too impressed with the first few looks, keep going and be wowed. Mind-blowing dresses made of multi-colored iridescent fabric? Yes, please. This dress looks as scrumptious as a pint of Grezzo ice cream:

Well, I will be taking a short hiatus until Sunday. We're on the midnight bus (The Knight Bus? Harry Potter, anyone? No, okay.) to Lisbon, seeing the sights Friday. Saturday is Lagos for some quality beach and kayaking time, hoorah!

Ciao, bellas

Ahem, I DO love New York.

Pardon me, how could I have been so out of line! I already posted London looks without giving proper attention to my fellow Americans. I was too beguiled with Diane's collection I forgot to address other glorious New York collections all-together, and trust me, there were many a praise-worthy! (I will not pick a favourite Marc Jacobs outfit because you and I both know his entire collection is divine, as always. My love for him is implied.) Other favorite American designers include Betsey Johnson, for the unpredictability of what's going to come out of that crazy mind, and Anna Sui, whose collections never cease to amaze me.

Shiver me timbers, Bets! Okay, so I would never wear this, but isn't it refreshing to know someone still believes in magic?

Oh Anna Banana, if only the size of my bank account were conducive to purchasing your clothes. Her collection was a hot mix of tribal necklaces, folkloric dresses, even a few victorian pieces. I couldn't possibly pick just one look. The footwear is equally as incredible. Mira:

I See London, I See France.

Check it out, mate! Some of my faves from across the pond.

Lovely Luella: Asymmetrical frills, beautiful big bows (again, headpieces! I love it.), darling gloves.
Christopher Kane's Animal Kingdom: Who knew a collection inspired by dinosaurs and the Flintstones could create such delicacy. The shoes look impossible, but the dress gives me chills!
House of Holland: Sitting in My English Garden
Much of this collection was a little too...how do I put it? Strange. Normally I'm all for a little quirk. I am completely obsessed with this look, however. The dreamy color of the dress paired with those rockstar zippered heels...and hoorah for Miss Michael being back in action!

I must be off to read and analyze a couple of Spanish sonnets, don't get too jealous. -Mad

Once Upon a Dream

DvF. J'adore. In my opinion, those initials rank right up there with JFK, FDR, MLK. I would even go so far as to say she has impacted society in a way that almost equals said historical figures. Though her talents do not lie in governing our nation or leading a social movement, it is difficult to think of the development of modern feminine dressing without Ms. Diane coming to mind. Her hallmark design, the knitted wrap dress, became such a huge staple in women's dress that it is now hosted in the collection of the Costume Institute at the Met. You Go Girl!

DvF's S/S 09 collection was off the heezy, if I may say so. The headpieces, oh the headpieces! Such brilliance, my dear Diane, really and truly. I am completely enamoured. Beautiful hair, beautiful headpieces, beautiful dresses. This collection appeared to be straight out of a fairy-tale storybook...from the 60s. No worries, she toned down the whole "dirty hippie" stigma and upped the glamour factor. Such dream-like collections are hard to come by, please don't wake me up.

Natalia Vodianova for Dvf...a collaboration with artist/writer/photographer Francois-Marie Banier. Watch the magic happen.

Inaugural Post

Welcome, bienvenue, bienvenidos! I'll make this short and sweet. I am a junior at Boston College, originally from the good ole state of Wisconsin (represent!). First off, quick note on title: for those of you who are well-acquainted with Walt Disney World, a.k.a. the happiest place on Earth, "Figment" is the name of character in Epcot. He loves using his imagination, I love using mine. Perfect match!

I'm studying in Sevilla, Spain for the entire year. As those of you who have ever visited Europe have probably observed, life is a tad more slow-paced in comparison with the hustle and bustle in the U.S. What better to do with all this free time than to start a blog! It will be fashion-y. I say fashion-y because I might throw in tidbits related to music, movies, books, world events, good food, etc. I have already been posting about happenings here in Spain on my other blog, check it out if you have time!

Peace, Maddy

Question: Is there a better time to start discussing fashion than immediately post-fashion month?
Answer: No.
